THE NEW PAD - A MINI GRAND TOUR

THE NEW PAD - A MINI GRAND TOUR

We moved into the terraced house in Macclesfield 4 months ago and it’s finally getting sorted. It was a big move for me as I’ve never lived with a BOY before, but after 2 years of long commutes and only seeing my boyfriend at weekends we decided to take the plunge.

We viewed so many houses that we lost count, and only being able to do it at the weekend because of where we both lived (and me not driving) was a nightmare, and it took forever to find the right place.

For every viewing we were armed with a tape measure, the main reason for this is because of my boyfriends new 2.2m sofa! It’s a good job it’s nice, because I’m not joking when I say we had to find a house to fit the sofa!

Anyway, we finally found somewhere. When we viewed it we knew pretty much straight away that it was right for us. This was partly due to nearly giving up hope after seeing some houses in awful states! But this one a) fit the sofa b) had a nice new kitchen with the space to swing a cat (I think this is a Stoke term - no cats have been swung here) c) had a yard d) space for an office desk.

It has a really light and fresh feel to it, a very attractive, almost spiral staircase (which we later discovered to be an actual pain in the bum to get furniture up) and we could fit ‘most’ of our combined furniture and general stuff into it.

Downsides - no cupboard under the stairs, minimal storage areas, a staircase that we had to measure the boxed dimensions of furniture to ensure safe passage to the bedroom.

Because my previous wardrobe is so large, there was no way this was going up the stairs, so this now sits in the dining part of the kitchen and has become our utility cupboard in the absence of real storage where we keep all the stuff you don’t want people to see. The wardrobe was something I was set on keeping, and I’m really glad I did.

Luckily my boyfriends taste in furniture is fairly similar to mine and we’ve been very lucky that between us we had most things that we needed. We both needed to sell our previous beds due the stairs situation, but apart from that we managed to get everything in. We had to just create storage as we went along. Even the surf board in the living room is growing on me!

A task of mine though was to condense my near 500 magazines (I think it was actually more) down to a fifth of that, which was an arduous task but worth it in the end now that we have more ‘squares’ on the bookcase for other things.

The last thing is to add some artwork in all of the rooms, and a small curtain for the little window in the kitchen. We are not permitted to have ANY nails of ANY kind in the walls, so we’ll be testing out command strips very soon (the one piece of artwork we have in the kitchen is still in place, so we're hoping this will work on the others!)

Take a look around and see what you think.
